Since 1985, Anna Engine Plant has transformed from a small operation with just 100 associates into one of our largest and most significant facilities in Ohio and Honda’s largest auto engine plant in the world. As part of Honda’s commitment to an electrified future, the Anna Engine Plant plays a vital role in our EV Hub, supporting the production of key components for Honda’s next-generation electric vehicles. Timeline

1980s

Production of the first American-made Honda engine, the GL1200 for the Gold Wing motorcycle line, began on July 22 with 94 associates.

Engine Assembly Line 0 started production of engines for the Civic.

Aluminum wheel production for the Civic commenced.

Suspension and drivetrain production began.

Cylinder sleeve, disc drum, and piston casting and machining started. Engine Assembly Line 1 began production with engines for cars.

1980s

1990s

The one-millionth engine, a 2.2-liter Accord 4-cylinder, was produced on February 14.

The plant celebrated its 10th anniversary.

Mass production of the 3.0L V6 engine started on Line 2.

1990s

2000s

Line 3 began production of V-6 engines for GM.

Production of turbo engines for the Acura RDX began.

2000s

2010s

The plant celebrated its 25th anniversary.

State and community leaders gather at the Anna Engine Plant for the announcement of a $98-million investment at the plant. We will manufacture key components of the Continuous Variable Transmission, a critical part of our all-new Earth Dreams Technology.

CVT pulleys and assembly production began.

On July 22, the Anna Engine Plant celebrated its 30th anniversary! From humble beginnings in a farmhouse in Anna, Ohio in 1985 to the mass production of a brand new turbo engine in 2015, the Anna Engine Plant has transformed itself over the last three decades into Honda’s largest engine plant in the world.

Mass production of the Civic Type R engine begins.

Production of the engine for the NSX began.

2010s

2020s

Production of an all-new turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 engine for Acura Type S models started.

The plant produced its 30-millionth engine and began preparations for electrification, including the production of battery module casings.
